Vendor lock – Dependency on a public cloud provider
Vendor lock-in is a serious problem. Every commercial solution based on proprietary software is designed to be as indispensable as possible. This is fine, but the problem arises when an abundance of features that facilitate organizational operations leads to dependency on the vendor. The goal of such solution design is to prevent customers from easily switching or replacing the software with an alternative. The end result is a high cost of extending support, the need to adapt to suddenly changing policies or the vendor's vision (we can cite examples: Oracle, VMware…). Eventually, sooner or later, problems arise with breaking off cooperation with such a vendor. This generates enormous costs and significant effort.
How does this look in public cloud?
Major providers such as AWS, Microsoft and Google have wonderful services—extensive, complex platforms where you can do everything. After all, why use a server when you have a platform as a service—you just send us your code. This is fine if you can afford their services and find them convenient and intuitive. As long as everything works, there's no problem. However, it might happen that the next invoice, expressed in many figures in euros or dollars, becomes too heavy for your organization to bear. And suddenly it may turn out that all this PaaS convenience means you don't know how to exit their cloud.
WebDisk does not create dependency!
At WebDisk, we have made it a point of honor that neither we nor our customers will ever experience this problem. Our company's main technology stack runs on open-source software. We also use commercial solutions, of course, but at a level that allows us to freely switch to another vendor. We give our customers the same choice—if you decide to end your cooperation with us, you will be able to take all your resources with you. We will allow you to export all your VMs (you won't find this functionality in other public clouds). At every step we will make it easier for you to exit our cloud (though with great regret) and help where we can.
We invite you to contact us and take advantage of WebDisk Cloud Computing, a cloud that does not create dependency and provides much pleasure!
