Vendor lock – Vendor lock-in in the public cloud

Vendor lock is a serious problem. Each commercial solution, based on proprietary software, is designed to be as needed as possible. And that’s OK, but the problem arises when the excess of functions that facilitate the functioning of the organization leads to dependence on the supplier. The purpose of designing solutions in this way is to prevent the customer from easily giving up or replacing the software with another one. The end result is the high cost of extending support and the need to adapt to the suddenly changing policy or vision of the manufacturer (we can multiply examples: Oracle, Vmware…). Finally, sooner or later, there is a problem with terminating cooperation with such a supplier. This generates huge costs and a lot of work.

What does it look like in the public cloud?

Big vendors like AWS, Microsoft, and Google have great services, vast, complicated platforms on which you can do anything. After all, why do we need a server if we have a platform and a service? All you need to do is send us your code. And that’s ok, if, dear customer, you can afford their services and it is convenient and intuitive for you, as long as everything is fine. However, it may happen that the next invoice, expressed in many digits in euros or dollars, may be too much for your organization to bear. And suddenly it may turn out that all this convenience of PaaS means that you don’t know how to withdraw from their cloud.

WebDisk is not addictive!

At WebDisk, we have made it a point of honor that neither we nor our customers will ever experience this problem. Our company’s core technology stack runs on open source. Of course, we also use commercial solutions, but at such a level that we can freely switch to another supplier. We give our clients the same choice: if you decide to end your cooperation with us, you will be able to take all your resources with you. We will allow you to export all VMs (you won’t find this functionality in other public clouds). At every step, we will make it easier to get out of our cloud (come with a lot of regret) and we will help where we can.

Please contact us and take advantage of WebDisk Cloud Computing, a cloud that is not addictive and gives a lot of pleasure!
